ABSTRACT EXPERIMENT 2020
Acrylic paint on canvas -150cm x 100cm
This large piece was inspired after trying an abstract painting workshop during my UAL Art Foundation year 2020.
It represents everything I love about painting , patterns, textures , colours.
What I loved most about creating this piece was the absolute freedom to allow my mind & hands to create with no judgement or subject matter , pure enjoyment of paint on canvas.
PAINTING & DRAWINGS UAL FOUNDATION YEAR 20/21
During my foundation year I did far less painting & drawing .
This is a small selection of experimental work that shows real diversity in methods , mediums & styles.
WHAT IS IT TO BE HUMAN?
Mixed media & acrylic paint on canvas -90cm x 70cm - Year 2 UAL Extended Diploma - 2019
The brief to explore the characteristics & context of the human form & how the human form has been explored in most areas of art & design.
Process - through studying life drawing , artist research including, Leonardo Da Vinci, Antony Gormley, Salman Khoshroo, Stina Persson, Jordan Casteel & Henri Matisse. Along side the research I worked on a parallel photography project with the same narrative.
I was able to gain insight into how the human form is not just depicted for its aesthetic value but can send strong political & social messages.
My development evolved around human emotions , language & the human form .
Outcome - a multi media approach on canvas depicting as many words in English that I associated with human emotions, actions & anatomy. The human form including a hand , such an important part of gestures & communication as well as an incredibly versatile tool was also important to me personally, as was the highly textured pallet knife paint application, tactile like humans.
Human Form Studies - 2019
During my second year of the UAL extended diploma I had the opportunity to explore a variety of mediums in relation to the narrative of the human form.
These are a few examples of my work within this narrative.
